Research Fellowships for Postdocs

Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung: Feodor Lynen - Research Fellowship

With its Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation supports postdocs up to four years as well as experienced researchers up to twelve years after their PhD. It enables postdocs and experienced researchers from all disciplines to carry out a research project of their choice abroad.

Post-doctoral researchers (up to 4 years after the PhD) are supported with the scholarship for 6 to 24 months. Experienced researchers (up to 12 years after the PhD) are supported for 6 to 18 months, divisible into up to three stays within 3 years.

About 100 scholarships are awarded annually.

The scholarship amount varies depending on the destination country and living situation: A scholarship holder heading for New York, USA, for example, currently receives 3,600€ per month; if she is accompanied by her husband and two children, up to 5,738€. Travel expenses are additionally reimbursed. How much the scholarship could be can be calculated with the scholarship calculator:

There is also the possibility of receiving a special twelve-month scholarship to support the return to Germany.
After the end of the scholarship, an Almuni grant follows. This means that after the scholarship, there is still the possibility of having research cooperation with international partners funded by the Foundation. Furthermore, the fellow is then part of a network of more than 28,000 Humboldtians worldwide.
