DBG-Course "Isotopes in Soil Science Research"

The course that is offered in collaboration with the DBG working group "Stable Isotopes in Soil Sciende" is aimed at younger scientists (PhD stundents, PostDocs, master students) that are using or plan to use tracer methods and isotopes in their work.
The lectures will be held in English.
The following topics are being covered:
- Introduction into isotope geochemistry
- Stable and radioactive isotopes, types of radioactivity
- Methods for measuring stable and radioactive isotopes
- Component specific isotope analysis (HPLC, GC)
- Natural abundance methods
- Tracer methods: a) isotopic labelling, b) non-isotopic labelling
- Opportunities and limitations, detection limits, artefacts
- Data analysis for different isotopic approaches, Sources of interpretational errors
- Couping with other methods and markers - Safety aspects and special requirements for radioactive isotope applications
