Research topics

  • The Global South in the Context of Economic Globalization: My research examines how different regions and players participate in and are affected by the process of economic globalization. Conceptually, our focus lies on global value chains, environmental governance and environmental management.
  • Urban and Regional Development in the Global South: My research concentrates on Urban and Regional Development in the Global South including three different aspects: 1. Land use change and land use conflicts in rural and agrarian areas; 2. Urban green, environmental protection and urban development; 3. Impacts of economic “South-South" connections on urban and regional development.
  • European City and Regional Development: In the context of European City and Regional Development I explore economic development in regional innovation systems, creative class and clusters but also social and environmental aspects of development including e.g. social exclusion, gentrification and urban green spaces.
